Malinga To Skip Colombo Test

Colombo, July 24
Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga has been rested for the second Test at Colombo against India due to an injury.
Malinga spearheaded the Lankan pace attack in the first Test at Galle and took seven wickets. He was declared man of the match.
The bowler was advised to take rest by Lankan physiotherapist Tommy Simsek as he complained of a stiff right knee. Malinga would be replaced by fast bowler Dilhara Fernando.
Meanwhile, the ‘carom’ bowl specialist off-spinner Ajantha Mendis may replace Muralitharan in the second Test as Murali retired from Tests after the Galle Test.
In a warm-up match against India earlier, Mendis bowled beautifully and ended with figures of 6/67.
Former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene has been named the vice-captain of the Sri Lankan team for the second Test.
On the other hand, Indian star batsman Virender Sehwag retained his number one Test batsman ranking, although his team suffered a 10-wicket defeat in the hands of Sri Lanka.
